Julie Favreau works at the crossroad between choreography and sculpture, mainly via image making. Her films, sculptures and photography look at how spiritual and sexual power have a role to play as vital forces in the imminent encounter with the reality of the augmented human. Her works are open-ended stories designed to induce a heightened state of sensory awareness in the viewer - statements for a return to focus, attention, intuition and tactility. Favreau’s knowledge of body-contact with the inanimate allows her to study how we can approach artificial intelligence in the field of bio-ethics.
Julie Favreau lives and works in Montreal and Berlin. She holds a Master of Fine Arts degree from Concordia University. Winner of the Prix Pierre-Ayot (2014) and the Claudine and Stephen Bronfman Grant (2012), Julie Favreau has presented her work in Quebec, Toronto and abroad, and has completed residencies in New York (2013), France (2011-2012) and Berlin (2017). She has also participated in numerous live art and performance projects. She was artist in residence at Fonderie Darling in the Montreal Studios from 2012 to 2015.
