Blouin Division is pleased to present Les champs magnétiques an exhibition featuring recent works by Pascal Grandmaison.

Les champs magnétiques consists of a series of images that form a sort of encyclopedia of the plants the artist cultivated specifically for this project. For 120 days, Pascal Grandmaison meticulously observed and documented the progression of his vegetation. This presentation will include a selection from a much larger body of work produced by the artist for this project.

Grandmaison focused on that ephemeral moment when sunlight becomes intensely concentrated. By recreating this light to integrate it into the documentary process, the final image oscillates between a scientific representation of the plant and a fictional universe. This fluctuation reflects our daily perception of the sun's power and evokes the mystery surrounding plant life and death, echoing the delicate timeline that charts our existence.

Pascal Grandmaison’s interest extends to the interaction of light with delicate surfaces, as seen in works like Le grand jour et Light by Fiction. His fascination with cinema, notably the films of Stanley Kubrick, has led him to develop an impressive array of video installations, many of which are now part of prestigious museum collections.

Pascal Grandmaison lives and works in Montreal. Holding a Bachelor's degree from the Université du Québec à Montréal, he is engaged in an artistic practice that involves photography, video projection, and sculpture. Since the late 1990s, his work has been celebrated in numerous solo and group exhibitions, including at the Musée d'art contemporain de Montréal, Casino Luxembourg-Forum d'art contemporain, Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec, Musée des beaux-arts du Canada, and Audin Art Museum. He has also exhibited in several galleries, including Jessica Bradley Art + Projects and Diaz Contemporary in Toronto, Jack Shainman in New York, Galerie Éponyme in Bordeaux, and Verney-Carron in Villeurbanne.
